About Us

Our History

In the year 1869, a group of black people saw a need for a place to worship for the people of the Omega and they organized the Jeter Chapel Baptist Church. The leaders of this effect were Henry Jeter, Austin Chappell, and Spencer Haymes. The church was named in honor of Henry Jeter and Austin Chappell.

The church held its worship service in what was called “Bush Harbor” until about 1880 at which time they purchased one acre of land from James and Fannie King and built a log church. In 1913 an additional acre was purchased from Alfred and Nannie Barksdale and a modern frame building was built. It is believed that this was done under the leadership of Rev. Hendren, In 1953 two acres of land were purchased from Frances Tucker's estate. In 1955 the church building burned down, and a portion of the present building was erected.

Today, our church is standing even through the most challenging seasons, which caused the

church to change its worship location to outside premises and through social media. (COVID 19).

This has caused our church to engage in millennial technology and now we are growing even more, spreading God's word to the parishioners and community. Today, we are reaching people where they are. "A rural church with a global anointing.”
